Alternative names for Sadalmelik are Sadalmelek, Sadlamulk, El Melik, or Saad el Melik. All these names derive from the Arabic Al Sa'd al Malik, "The Lucky One of the King." or Al Sa'd al Mulk, "The Lucky One of the Kingdom."
Description of the Star
Sadalmelik is a yellow G2Ib supergiant having a luminosity of perhaps 3000 times that of the sun. The spectral type implies a temperature of about 5400 K, a mass maybe 10 times that of the sun, and a diameter more than 100 times that of the sun.
